| Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy of the Xiehuo Xiaoying Formula on Graves'' disease (GD) patients with heart and liver fire excess syndrome, as well as its impact on the lymphocyte immune function of these patients. Methods: A total of 70 GD patients with heart and liver fire excess syndrome who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to the conventional treatment group and the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) group, with 35 cases in each group. The conventional treatment group was treated with methimazole (MMI), while the TCM group was treated with MMI combined with the Xiehuo Xiaoying Formula. The treatment lasted for 12 weeks, and changes in clinical symptoms, TCM syndrome scores, thyroid function and related antibodies, lymphocyte subsets, and safety indicators were observed before and after treatment in both groups. Results: A total of 58 GD patients completed the study, including 30 in the conventional treatment group and 28 in the TCM group. The TCM group was superior to the conventional treatment group in reducing TCM syndrome scores and had fewer adverse reactions. Changes in peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets were observed in both groups of GD patients before and after treatment. In the conventional treatment group, CD4+/CD8+ and the percentage of CD4+ T lymphocytes increased compared with those before treatment (P < 0.05). In the TCM group, the absolute number of lymphocytes, the percentage of CD4+ T lymphocytes, CD4+/CD8+, and the percentage of NK cells increased, while the percentage of B cells decreased (P < 0.05). After treatment, the comparison between the two groups showed that the TCM group had significantly higher CD4+/CD8+ and NK cell percentages and significantly lower B cell percentages than the conventional treatment group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of the Xiehuo Xiaoying Formula and MMI has a definite clinical effect on GD and can effectively improve the clinical symptoms of TCM. The mechanism of the Xiehuo Xiaoying Formula in treating GD is related to the restoration of the body''s immune function, and it achieves the therapeutic effect on GD by regulating the lymphocyte immune function of the body. |
